Dr Jan Aldenhoven is a biologist and wildlife filmmaker living on North Stradbroke Island. She has a Bachelor of Science in Botany and Zoology, Honours degree in fresh water ecology, and a PhD in marine biology.

Jan and her partner Glen Carruthers have their own wildlife filmmaking business. They have contributed to many acclaimed nature documentaries including several David Attenborough series. They are best known for their own landmark film, Kangaroos – Faces in the Mob, which has won over 20 awards including an Emmy and a Logie.

Jan has served on numerous committees involved in the management of different aspects of the island's natural environment.

Jan has a passion to learn about and understand North Stradbroke Island's ecology, and enjoys sharing and discussing this with others. Drawing on a rich library of photos she and Glen have taken of the island, Jan gives regular talks to visiting students from schools and universities. 

Jan has been a contributor to Lines in the Sand since 2011, giving talks about the island's natural environment.
